St. Martin/St. Maarten

The half French half Dutch island of St Martin/St Maarten, a tiny jewel in the Caribbean is known as the “friendly island” for its enthusiastic welcomes and easy going ambiance. Undoubtedly the fortunate consequence of the delightful fusion of cultures (over 85 different nationalities) co-habiting peaceably on less than 35 sq. miles. Not just ethnically diverse, the island is also renowned for its culinary excellence with over 300 restaurants to choose from, a jet-set, exciting nightlife offering numerous casinos, bars and nightclubs and some of the best most pristine beaches in the Caribbean.

St. Martin, the northern “French Side” of the island (53 km2) is an overseas collectivity of France. French is the official language and the official currency is the euro. English is also widely spoken and the $US is accepted everywhere.

The capital of St. Martin is Marigot with its chic European duty-free shopping and thriving market place.

Grand Case on the northern coast is a charming village renowned for its many fine restaurants, romantic waterfront dining and art galleries.

The majority of Pierres Caraibe’s villas are located in an area known as Terres Basses (French Lowlands) on the Western tip of the island. Terres Basses is an exclusive gated enclave where most of the properties are situated, for the most part on a minimum of 2 acres. St. Maarten, the “Dutch side” on the southern half of the island (34km2) with its capital Philipsburg is a very popular cruise ship destination. The official language is Dutch but English is spoken everywhere. The official currency is the Netherlands Antilles guilder (ANG) but $US are accepted everywhere.

Visit the capital Philipsburg for its excellent duty free shopping and waterfront bars and restaurants on the “Boardwalk”.

The vibrant nightlife of St. Maarten is centered in the Maho and Simpson Bay areas with many casinos, nightclubs, bars and restaurants.

Pierres Caraibes has several condos and apartments located in the Cupecoy area (Dutch  Lowlands) including the prestigious resorts of Porto Cupecoy, The Cliff at Cupecoy, Cupecoy Beach Club and the brand new Blue Residence at the Blue Mall. Close by are the beautiful white sandy beaches of Mullet Bay, Cupecoy and Maho, the Mullet Bay Golf course and the nightlife of Maho.

A major hub, the island has the brand new Princess Juliana airport: the second busiest in the North Eastern Caribbean, in terms of aircraft movements, behind San Juan, Puerto Rico.
